Five die, over dozen injured in three accidents in Chitawan

Three people have died and a dozen injured when a bus had an accident near Kurintar on the Prithvi Highway, on Saturday.

Police said, Rameshwor Neupane, 21, a teacher of Thansingh village, Bibek Lama, 18, of Kalikasthan and Krishna Tamang, 10, of Bhadratar village in Nuwakot died while undergoing treatment after the accident.

Neupane was undergoing treatment at Tanahun district hospital and the other two were being treated at Bharatpur medical college.

The bus was carrying over 50 passengers. They were returning home in Nuwakot after a pilgrimage to Manakamana temple in Gorkha. The bus hit a truck and overturned. According to the injured passengers, the driver was intoxicated while driving.

Four people who are critically injured are being treated at Bharatpur Medical College and others are being treated at Chitawan District Hospital.

Meanwhile, a woman died and six others were injured when fire broke out in a van bound for Mugling from Kathmandu at Darechowk-9 in Chitwan.

Man Kumari Adhikari, 80, of Satdobato, Lalitpur, was burnt to death after fire broke out in the van due to leakage of gas, police said. The injured are being treated in Kathmandu.

In another incident, a 10-year-old student of Motherland Boarding School in Khairani, Chitawan died after she was knocked down by her own school bus.

Smriti Pradhan, a third grader at the school, was hit by the bus at Magante Chowk, Khaireni at 10 am and succumbed to her injuries while being treated at Bharatpur Medical College, police said.
